DEE Students win in IIEE RSCon Quiz Contests
A week into the official affiliation of the IIEE UPLB Student Chapter to the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc – Council of Students Chapter (IIEE-CSC), IIEE-CSC held its first virtual IIEE Regional Student Conference last October 14-17, 2021. Several IIEE UPLB Student Chapter members participated in the activities of the said conference such as the 20th Regional Math Wizard and 36th Regional Quiz Show.
On the first day of the conference, a team of DEE students made a remarkable feat in the 20th Regional Math Wizard by placing 2nd among the 10 participating teams. This was after they went head to head against De La Salle Lipa on a tie breaker round to determine the number 1 rank. The team consists of Reign De Vera (Team Captain), Charles Asuncion, Jason Yabes, Jed Soberano (Substitute Member), and Fatima Joie Flores (Substitute Member), with Mr. Rob Christian Caduyac as team coach.
The good performance from UPLB DEE students continued until the 2nd day of the conference in the 36th Regional Quiz Show. Though the team struggled to rank on the first round of the competition, the students made sure to bounce back and gave a good result on the latter rounds. At the end of the competition, the team ranked 4th (out of 11) in the said quiz show. The team is composed of Sean Coloma (Team Captain), Fatima Flores, Jed Soberano, and Reign De Vera (Substitute Member), with Engr. Rock Tomas and Engr. Kyrstynne Ureta as team coaches. With the good result in both competitions, both teams are qualified to join the National competition as one of the representatives from the Southern Luzon Region in December. This achievement is surely a great way to celebrate the official recognition of the UPLB IIEE Student Chapter as part of the IIEE-CSC. | Kyrstynne Ureta, 19 October 2021
