Asst. Prof. Ramoso is 2022 CDYAA in Electrical Engineering
In celebration of UPLB’s 104th Loyalty Day, the College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology held its Alumni Homecoming last October 9, 2022 at the CEAT Lecture Hall. Part of the festivities is the recognition of the 2022 CEAT Distinguished Young Alumni that is awarded to alumni who have shown contributions to science and technology, environment, society, education, and management.
For this year, the recipient of the Distinguished Young Alumni in Electrical Engineering is none other than Asst. Prof. John Paolo A. Ramoso. Asst. Prof. Ramoso, or most commonly known as sir JP, is instrumental in the development of the 4-year undergraduate curriculum of the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program, and is currently spearheading the establishment of the graduate programs in Master of Science and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering. Aside from these, he also aided in the development of the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering curriculum in 2020. He also founded the Robotics and Automation Research Laboratory through numerous external and internal funding. He also serves as a member of the interdisciplinary virtual center, Robotics and Instrumentation Studies Center, and oversees the maintenance and development of the Instrumentation Section of UPLB. His contributions to society and industry are also shown by his participation in numerous private and public research projects. In 2017, he participated in the PCARI-CHED Fellowship at the University of California Berkeley for Machine Learning. He is also part of the DOST PCIEERD Fellowship for Science Communication Fellowship Program. He was also a Subject Matter Specialist for the PCARI PRIME+ (PCARI Research and Instructional Infrastructure for Mentoring and Collaboration) Expanded Project. He is also active in establishing partnerships with private institutions and helped develop robotics lessons for young Filipinos. Aside from this, he also initiates in developing innovations and solutions in the fields of automation, instrumentation, and machine learning applications.
