Electrical Engineering at UPLB has more than a decadelong record of excellence, training and service. It is a diverse discipline that deals with the study and application of power, electronics and telecommunications. It deals with the study of largescale and smallscale electrical systems. Among the subdisciplines of this course are Power, Electronics, Microelectronics, Signal Processing, Telecommunications, Instrumentation and Computers.


Graduates from the Department of Electrical Engineering are academically excellent, globally competitive and well equipped of the basic principles of modern electrical and electronics engineering. It is also assured that the students are able to creatively translate the theories and principles of the course through laboratory experiments, projects and research endeavors. Furthermore, being a true “Iskolar para sa Bayan”, the graduates of this course contribute to the development of the environmental, safety, social, economic and other issues besetting the Electrical Engineering profession towards the development of the local and international industry.



The Department of Electrical Engineering was approved by the UP Board of Regents on September 26, 1996. It offers the degree Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering which focuses on the generation, processing, distribution and safe utilization of electrical energy and information. The degree has three specializations which are – Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering.


The Department is housed at the New Electrical Engineering building along Pili Drive, together with the CEAT Dean’s Office and College Secretary’s Office. The building also houses the CEAT Library as well as a 260-seat EE Auditorium. A 208 KW, 3-phase generator supplies power to the building during brownouts.

Program Educational Objectives

1. Engage in teaching electrical engineering subjects for HEI, consultation, design, testing, evaluation, and management of services requiring knowledge in electrical, electronics, and/or computer engineering knowledge, technologies, facilities and equipment
2. Holding managerial or supervisory positions in public or private institutions involved in design and planning of specifications and estimates, as well as construction and operation of electric power systems, power plants, power distribution systems, electronic and computer engineering processes in the industry, with an equal emphasis on electrical machines and supply equipment.
3. Produce electrical engineers holding project leadership in research and development, training and extension work, and consultancy services on electrical-, electronics-, and computer engineering-related fields for efficient use of electric power, automation, and industrial growth while maintaining awareness on environmental health and safety.


Course Outcomes

 By the time of graduation, the students of the program shall be able to:
a. apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve engineering problems

b. design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

c. design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability, in accordance with standards
