The University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), under the initiative of Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) faculty member Engr. Melvin C. Ilang-Ilang, was chosen to be one of the five universities around the Philippines to receive a drone starter kit (DSK) from DOST-PCIEERD. The DSK was developed under the Unmanned Aeriel Vehicle (UAV) project of DOST-PCIEERD.
Engr. Ilang-Ilang, along with fellow DEE faculty members aProf. John Paolo A. Ramoso, Engr. Adrian R. Quicoy, and Engr. Aryan Paula A. Manalo underwent a 2-day training program under the supervision of the De La Salle University UAV Team. The training included workshops on drone assembly, programming, and flight testing. DEE plans to use the DSK in teaching modules for electronics courses; for research involving motor control, remote sensing, and path planning for UAV; and for extension work involving the applications of UAVs in the surrounding community.
